Etech > Rich Internet Applications and the Service Oriented Client

Rich Internet Applications and the Service Oriented ClientKevin Lynch

We start off with a graph detailing the AJAX approach and some things we can’t currently do with it, cross domain scripting for example

Announcing binding of AJAX and Flash player (graphics) and Flex

Open Source project

  1. ALFAX
  2. Dojo.storage

Flash player 98% people on the web, most distributed, most updated etc etc

We get a Flex/Ajax demo and we get the usual Flickr demo, similar to the one at ETel.

It’s a nice way to embed Flex objects in AJAX pages written in Ruby, something we are requiring if not using now

we get a look at the code and it’s sweet, modular and allows you to do some very dynamic and flash stuff in a page, even uses script.aculo.us

The back-end is service oriented but the front end is not, we need a service oriented client

last demo shows a nice push of data from a Flex app onto a AJAX page dynamically and then goes on to show it updating an Excel spreadsheet dynamically too

everything available @ http://labs.adobe.com
